EXCLUSIVE: House Small Business Committee Republicans are
pressing demands for Treasury Department Secretary Janet Yellen
to testify before their committee on the Hill, requesting her
updated 2022 public calendar.

The letter sent to Yellen Monday, led by ranking member Rep.
Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo., states that the secretary's
background and experience would help the nation address
"increasing prices, growing supply chain disruptions, and
continued labor shortages" as inflation continues to surge.

"Small business owners and their employees deserve nothing less
than to hear your testimony before this Committee on what steps
are now being taken to address inflation," they write.

The lawmakers also seek Yellen's testimony regarding the
Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), which was established to give
small businesses assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. There
has been growing scrutiny of the program, which faced challenges
and fraud allegations, that Republicans say demands the
secretary's attention.

However, the Treasury Department told Fox News Digital it
doesn't plan on sending Yellen to testify before the Small
Business Committee, because her deputy can stand in her place,
and the agency already publicly releases her calendars.

"Secretary Yellen looks forward to continuing her robust
engagement with Congress, which has included testifying over a
dozen times before the House and the Senate, including six hours
of testimony last week before Congress," a Treasury spokesperson
told Fox News Digital in response to the letter.

RAND PAUL DEMANDS YELLEN TESTIFY BEFORE SMALL BUSINESS PANEL AS
AMERICANS STRUGGLE WITH INFLATION

"The Deputy Treasury Secretary has legal authority to fulfill
this requirement to testify before the Small Business
Committees, and he has already agreed and offered to appear
before them. We hope the Committees will allow him to appear to
testify."

The spokesperson also noted that the department does release
Yellen's calendars publicly on a quarterly basis.

The last batch of calendars on Treasury's website are from the
October-December 2021 quarter. The department did not say when
the first quarter 2022 calendars will be made public.

The House Republicans demand the agency provide calendar entries
between Jan. 1, 2022, and the present by June 27.

The back and forth between House and Senate Small Business
Committee members and Yellen has been constant over the last
year. Lawmakers take issue with the fact that Yellen has
testified before more than a dozen committees on Capitol Hill
but has skirted public appearances where she would discuss
issues of import to small businesses.

"It has been 408 days since the statutory deadline for you to
testify this Committee has lapsed," Luetkemeyer wrote in the
letter sent Monday evening. "I am frustrated and concerned over
the fact that, despite acknowledging the importance of
supporting small businesses through our nation's economic
recovery, you continue to refuse to address the only House
committee solely dedicated to assessing and investigating the
problems of small businesses."

Across the Capitol, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., led Senate
Republicans last week in a letter demanding Yellen fulfill her
constitutional obligation to testify before the Senate's small
business panel as inflation reaches historic heights.

The department's assistant secretary for legislative affairs,
Jonathan Davidson, told senators the agency had determined that
the deputy secretary could legally fulfill the requirement in
place of Yellen.

However, the senators took issue with that determination in
their letter Thursday, writing: "The law is clear. The Secretary
is required to testify, and this duty is not delegable.
Therefore, the Deputy Secretary is not authorized to satisfy
your legal obligation to testify before the Committee."

EXCLUSIVE: Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is leading Republicans who are
demanding Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen testify before the
Senate's small business panel as inflation reaches historic
heights.

Paul, who serves as the ranking member on the Senate Small
Business Committee, led a letter to Yellen Thursday, signed by
the Republican members of the panel, asking that the secretary
fulfill her legal requirement to testify, especially as rising
inflation is greatly impacting Americans nationwide.

The letter was sent the day before new inflation numbers were
released by the Labor Department Friday, revealing that the
consumer price index, a broad measure of the price for everyday
goods, including gasoline, groceries and rents, rose 8.6% in May
from a year ago. It marks the fastest pace of Inflation since
December 1981.

REPUBLICANS FURIOUS WITH YELLEN FOR FAILING TO TESTIFY ON COVID
RELIEF: 'CONTINUED VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW'

"It’s clear that Secretary Yellen is blatantly ignoring a legal
obligation to testify before the Small Business Committee,
despite the fact that we’ve been more than willing to
accommodate her schedule. Apparently, she – and the rest of the
Biden administration – evidently believe they are above the law,
and are unbothered that Americans and businesses everywhere are
grappling with a 40-year-high inflation rate of 8.6% that is
only bound to get worse amid the Biden administration’s economic
incompetence," Paul told FOX Business in an exclusive statement
Friday.

The senators and Yellen have gone back and forth regarding her
requirement to testify many times over the last several months.

Most recently, the department's assistant secretary for
legislative affairs, Jonathan Davidson, told senators the agency
had determined that the deputy secretary could legally fulfill
the requirement in place of Yellen.

However, the senators took issue with that determination in
their letter Thursday, writing: "The law is clear. The Secretary
is required to testify and this duty is not delegable.
Therefore, the Deputy Secretary is not authorized to satisfy
your legal obligation to testify before the Committee."

The Republicans point to a provision mandated in the Economic
Aid Act, which states that the "Secretary of the Treasury shall
testify before the Committee on Small Business and
Entrepreneurship of the Senate."

SURGING 8.6%

In response to the letter, the Treasury Department told FOX
Business that it continues to defend its delegation of the
deputy secretary to fulfill the testimony requirement under law.

A Treasury Department spokesperson told FOX Business Friday that
Yellen has "robust engagement" with Congress and that the deputy
secretary would still fulfill the requirement to testify
specifically before the Small Business Committee.

"Secretary Yellen looks forward to continuing her robust
engagement with Congress, which has included testifying over
dozen times before the House and the Senate, and as recently as
this week before the Ways and Means and Finance committees."

"The Deputy Treasury Secretary has legal authority to fulfill
this requirement to testify before the Small Business
Committees, and he has already agreed and offered to appear
before the Committees. We hope the Committees will allow him to
appear to testify on this work."

Yellen has not testified on COVID-19 relief funds before the
Small Business Committees despite law requiring her testimony

EXCLUSIVE: Republicans in Congress are accusing Treasury
Secretary Janet Yellen of violating the law by failing to
testify before congressional committees on coronavirus relief
programs for businesses.

Ranking Member Rand Paul, R-Ky., and nine GOP members of the
Senate Small Business committee gave Yellen a Wednesday deadline
to schedule her testimony before the panel that they argue is
one year overdue according to language in a 2020 appropriations
bill.

Yellen didn't respond.

Secretary-Yellen#download&from_embed>

"I’ve repeatedly asked for Treasury Secretary Yellen to fulfill
her duties and appear before the Small Business Committee. Yet
again, the Biden Administration is neglecting Congress’ proper
oversight into a taxpayer funded department that is partially
responsible for skyrocketing debt and a 41-year high inflation
rate," Paul said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "We’ve been
more than willing to accommodate Secretary Yellen’s schedule,
however we are prepared to use all tools available to us to
ensure her compliance with the law if it becomes necessary."

Over in the House, the top Republican on the Small Business
Committee is having the same problem with getting Yellen to
testify on the role and impact of the Paycheck Protection
Program, the major COVID-19 relief program for small businesses.

YELLEN URGES CAUTION ON RUSSIAN OIL BAN IN EU, WARNS IT COULD
INCREASE PRICES

"The repeated refusal from Secretary Janet Yellen to testify
before the House Committee on Small Business is nothing less
than blatant disregard for the law, small businesses, and the
American people," Ranking Member Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo., told
Fox Business. "The Secretary’s behavior is a continued violation
of federal law."

At issue is the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 that was
signed into law in December 2020. It had an oversight provision
in the language that requires the Treasury Secretary to testify
before the House and Senate Small Business Committees about the
economic aid to hard-hit small businesses and nonprofits within
"120 days after the date of enactment of this Act, and not less
than twice each year thereafter."

By that timeframe, Yellen was first due before the committees by
April 26, 2021, and would have to appear two times in 2022.

A Treasury spokesperson told FOX Business that Yellen has
appeared before different committees in Congress and her deputy
can appear before the Small Business committees in her place.

"Secretary Yellen looks forward to continuing her robust
engagement with Congress, which includes her testimony before
the House Financial Services Committee on April 5, and her
testimony before both the House and Senate in a few weeks,"
Treasury Spokesperson John Rizzo said in a statement.

HOUSE SET TO APPROVE MORE COVID RELIEF FOR RESTAURANTS,
INCLUDING BUSINESSES TIED TO DISNEY

"The Deputy Treasury Secretary has legal authority to fulfill
this requirement to testify before the Small Business
Committees, and he has already agreed and offered to appear
before the Committees. We hope the Committees will allow him to
appear to testify on this work."

But the GOP members want Yellen herself, as the law states "the
Secretary of the Treasury shall testify."

"The Secretary’s behavior indicates she believes herself to be
above the law – which continues this administration and the
left’s tendency of ‘rules for thee, but not for me,’ mindset,"
Luetkemeyer said.

Spokespeople for the Democratic chairs of the House and Senate
Small Business Committees did not immediately respond to
requests for comment on whether Yellen was in violation of the
law.

Rush has never been wrong before. I agree with everything he says. It
looks like the leftists have been exposed again.
A group of liberal Capitol Hill staffers were arrested in the
office of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) after
demanding Democratic leadership resume talks on climate
legislation.

More than a dozen employees of Democratic members of Congress
sat down in Schumer's office holding signs calling on the
majority leader to renew efforts to combat climate change. The
protest ended after about half an hour when Capitol Police bound
the disgruntled staffers' hands with zip ties and escorted them
out.

One of the protesters, Saul Levin, a staffer for "Squad" member
Rep. Cori Bush (D., Mo.), tweeted photos of the demonstration
from within Schumer's office.

"We, staffers of the US Congress, are peacefully sitting in on
Senator Schumer’s office to demand Dems pass climate justice
policy this year," Levin tweeted. "We are putting our bodies on
the line because we have no other choice."

Congressional staffers have increasingly attempted to pressure
lawmakers to pursue certain policies and deliver greater
benefits for staff. Staffers across several progressive offices
have begun efforts to unionize in pursuit of "pay equity" and
other aims.

In a similar protest last week, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
(D., N.Y.) and Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) pretended to be handcuffed
and arrested as they were taken away from a protest at the
Supreme Court.

Levin is the son of progressive congressman Andy Levin (D.,
Mich.), who is currently caught up in a primary contest with
another incumbent. A focal point of the race concerns Levin’s
failure to support the state of Israel, a key American ally.

Negotiations on a massive climate spending package broke down
last week when Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) rejected efforts to
spend hundreds of billions on combating carbon emissions.
Manchin cited record inflation and the importance of traditional
energy sources in outlining his opposition to the "green"
policies.
